Uruguay Dove Hunting
What to bring for a Uruguay Hunting Trip

Many dove hunters and those traveling to Uruguay ask about the what to pack, how to pack, what is needed for a Uruguay dove hunting trip. Los Gauchos is happy to provide the details for your Uruguay dove hunting trip.

Uruguay Dove Hunting - the packing list

  • Casual, comfortable clothes - While Los Gauchos provides five star, luxury lodging, the dress code is comfort while dove hunting in Uruguay. Remember Uruguay seasons and temperatures are opposite those in the United States. During May, June, and July temperatures will be winter like. The Uruguay climate is mild; layers and preparation for rain, warm winter days, and cool summer evenings are advised.

  • Favorite 20 gauge -optional - Bringing a shotgun into Uruguay is convenient and Los Gauchos will asssist you with forms and the process of traveling with your shotgun.

Los Gauchos recommends the Sportsman Travel Protection Insurance which is designed for bird hunters traveling with shotguns.

If your baggage is delayed, this protection will reimburse you. See the complete coverage and contact the customer service department for the complete coverage for the Sportsman Travel Protection Insurance.

Uruguay requires the information about the shotgun to be processed at least 45 days prior to your arrival into Uruguay.

All of the information should be recorded on the Uruguay Gun Form for Los Gauchos Outfitters. You may fax, email or mail this form back to us. We will confirm receipt and start the process for your gun license while dove hunting in Uruguay.

Los Gauchos is one of the few Uruguay outfitters that provides Benelli guns for our guests to use- and this is included in the hunting package, meaning FREE, no fees attached to using our gun of choice, Benelli.

  • Gloves - remember Uruguay dove hunting is high volume and the shotgun will be loaded, reloaded, reloaded and repeat many times during your Uruguay dove hunt. Los Gauchos suggests a basic level of protection for your hands and fingers. A lightweight glove made from cotton, fleece, or leather is best for comfort and use. Your shotgun glove(s) serves to protect your hands from cuts and abrasions as well as providing some warmth for those early morning dove hunts when it's chilly.

  • Sunglasses - Shooting glasses are always important, especially for the high volume and active shooting for doves you will experience during your Uruguay dove hunting trip.

  • Uruguay - information about the dove hunting destinations

While Uruguay is one of the smallest countries in South America, it is one of the largest Uruguay dove hunting sites in South America. While Cordoba in neighboring Argentina has been well noted in the press and with several dove hunting lodges as the capital of dove hunting, Uruguay is certainly due to be recognized for it's outstanding dove hunting destinations.

Spanish is the official language in Uruguay; however, much of the population learns English in school and you will find English spoken by many Uruguayans. The Uruguay peso is the official currency, but again, the US dollar is well accepted and there are several banks and cambios that will exchange US dollars for Uruguay pesos. Credit cards are accepted in most restaurants, hotels, and shops. However, you may come across some that only accept Uruguay pesos, so keeping a small amount of Uruguay pesos is a good idea when traveling in Uruguay.

Los Gauchos knows many of our bird hunters and their guest enjoy reading about Uruguay and we have chosen some good resources and references for dove hunting in Uruguay.
